West Valley Boys and Girls Club Great Futures Start Here

Former Youth of the year Continues to Shine
When we named Jorden Sneed 2012 Youth of the Year, we knew she would do us proud -- but she exceeded even our highest expectations. This spring, Jorden earned a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in African American Studies from Bucknell University. She graduated with great distinction: her accolades include the Community Outreach Award, the Bison Award for Excellence in Co-curricular Activities, the President's Diversity and Leadership Award for Student Organization...and the list goes on.
During her time at Bucknell, Jorden was an active member of many campus organizations, such as the Bucknell Africa Student Association, Pre-health Society, Katrina Recovery Team, and Diversity Outreach Team. She played Varsity Basketball and participated in the Bucknell Cycling Club. She studied abroad in Cape Coast, Ghana and performed community service in New Orleans, Rome and Spain.
Jorden credits the Club for helping her thrive. "My brother and I became members when my parents divorced," Jorden explained. "It was a rough time in our lives but it became a blessing in disguise because the Club began to mold me into the person I am today. The Boys & Girls Club has blessed me with so many opportunities, such as attending a top notch private school through a special scholarship, and being Youth of the Year. I will forever be indebted to the Club for providing me with a support system and a place to grow. I know I can always call the Club my home. I cannot wait to donate and give back when I am settled in my career."

Paying it forward is something Jorden learned from the generous people who invested in her. Her achievements are her own, but our donors opened the door for her and for every child who calls the Club home. Jorden’s success is a proud moment for all of us and a reminder of why we do what we do.

Jorden has secured a summer internship in the District Office of Congressman Tony Cardenas and is contemplating a master’s degree. We cannot wait to see what the future holds for her. Congratulations, Graduate!
