Youth of the Year Honorees Recognized
On Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, more than 180 people gathered at the Warner Center Marriott to honor our 2016 Youth of the Year, Ruby Antosh, as well as the eight children who were selected for their outstanding qualities.  Each student represented their individual school site. Teen member Caitlyn Torres performed "Superman" and a heartfelt video presentation highlighted each Youth of the Year honoree.
Ruby Antosh this year's Youth of the Year, shared how she overcame her challenging childhood growing up in the foster care system.  The audience was moved by her confidence and bright spirit and how the Boys & Girls Club believed in her when no one else did.  Ruby aspires to become the sports doctor for the Clippers, so the best surprise was when Chairman of the Board, Marty Cooper, presented Ruby with an opportunity to visit the Clippers Athletic Trainer and be his guest at a Clippers game.  Ruby is extremely grateful for everything and is still incredibly humble.   She says that this was the best day of her life.  Ruby received a $1000 scholarship from Farmers Insurance and an additional $1000 scholarship from the Club.
Each of the honorees was introduced and spoke of their experiences at the Club.  Daniil Saveliev, 11 years old, Youth of the Year winner from the Main Site, said his favorite program is STEM and if he could build a robot he would program it to do everyone's homework and clean up the Club.  Kyle Whitmore from Canoga Park High School was the finalist for the Youth of the Year and gave a very powerful speech detailing his struggles growing up without a father and how the Club helped him come out of his shell and be the confident young man he is today.
Special thanks to our Presenting Sponsor, Farmers Insurance and all of the other sponsors who made this day possible.
