Mentorship Program Preps Young Scholars for Higher Ed
For the second year in a row, the Club hosted College Knowledge Day at Blythe Elementary School on May 23, 2016. Cleveland College Bound members worked collaboratively with members at Blythe Elementary School to complete a college research project. For four weeks, mentors and their respective students worked hand-in-hand to research information that included tuition, location, type of university (public or private), notable alumni, most common majors and so forth.
Every mentor was paired with one or two students to form 13 groups. Each team had internet access, arts & craft supplies, a poster board and notecards in preparation for College Knowledge Day. At the three-week mark, each group practiced their 2-3 minute presentation showcasing what they had learned about their university.
At the main event, family and students' elementary peers filled the audience as each group took the stage to present their project. After the last presentation, those in attendance had learned about the following universities: CSUN, CSULB, UC Santa Cruz, UCLA, UC Davis, UC Berkeley, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, Julliard, NYU, and USC.
To celebrate the College Bound Kids' hard work and newly acquired college knowledge, members visited our local university, CSUN.
